Offering a deliberate look at the ordinary and commonplace, S.E. Barnet strives to uncover what lies hidden beneath the surface. Barnet's interest lies in the discrepancy of the actual with the expected. Her videos, films, and installations have been exhibited nationally and internationally including at The American Academy in Rome Italy, in Galerie Christine Koenig, Vienna and in (d)vision as part of the Beidermeyer Festival for Digital Culture also in Vienna. She has received various grants and awards including a Durfee ARC grant, the Long Beach Museum of Art's 1999 New Visions Video Production Grant, the Panavision Young Filmmakers Award and, as part of the MOISTURE collective, a LEF Arts Foundation grant and a Beall Center for the Arts grant. She has contributed illustrations and writing to three projects published by Verse Chorus Press and currently has writing included in artist Susan Silton's Tornado in a Box available through Feigen Gallery in New York. Barnet is currently completing a web based project in co-production with the Banff Centre for the Arts, which has been included in the Media@terrra microMuseum.
